“ Those are very , very popular ,” Phillips says . “ The kids seem to like those a lot .”
“ The Chronicles of Narnia ” continue to remain a beloved series of books among young readers , as well as all of the “ Harry Potter ” books .
No matter a person ’ s age , Phillips says a book makes a perfect gift for a number of reasons .
“ It does everything ,” he says . “ Number one , reading is essential for life . It makes you a better thinker … It gives you a better view of , hopefully , humanity because most great books and literature will give you a view into humanity .”
Phillips says he and his staff were recently discussing fiction and non-fiction books , and he recalls someone saying that what makes a good fiction book is that it ’ s true .
“ We always think nonfiction books are true , but a good fiction book is something about truth ,” he says . “ It tells you something about yourself . It tells you something about others . It puts you in someone else ’ s shoes . It puts you in experiences that you don ’ t really have to go through but you can go through … If you read a classic , you go back in time [ and ] you see start to see that people go through the same emotional things that you go through , and it gives you [ ideas ] about how to handle those situations and how to experience those situations , so I think reading books is one of the best human experiences we can do .”
