DELUXE DINING Making the dining area a sophisticated yet simple space was “an exercise in restraint,” says Toledo, “because we like to layer in design. Instead, we said ‘Enough: Walk away! We don’t need an extra side chair or settee.’” The ele- ments that make up the composition in this room, seen here from two different angles, are a barrel vault ceiling covered in ebony and ivory wallpaper; a light fixture from Oly Studio composed of glass spheres that are smoky to varying degrees; arm-less, chunky chairs; an oblong custom-design table; and an open con- sole with lacquered color on the front and top and a mahogany stain underneath. The artwork hanging above the white-washed buffet cabinet is by artist Logan Ledford and comes from the Lilac Gallery in Manhattan. And as subtle as that work is bold: The wall-covering is “almost a wool material,” says Toledo. “When you walk in, you want to touch it.” ■ MILLBURN & SHORT HILLS MAGAZINE SPRING 2020 17
