KIDS COMPETE IN
COOKING AND
CRACKING WISE
If you haven’t caught it yet, the current
season of MasterChef Junior premiered
on Fox TV on March 5. This time
around, the budding chefs include
local aspiring chef MATTHEW, 8, of
Livingston. The first episode, titled
“Culinary ABCs,” featured a mystery
box that contestants needed to cook
breakfast—containing surprise ingredi-
ents, of course. Matthew was one of
24 deemed “the most talented young
home cooks in America,” according to
executive producer Gordon Ramsay.
Competitors’ ages range from 8 to 13.
Stakes are high for the young aspirants,
not only because they want to avoid
Ramsey’s trademark insults; the winner
stands to win a cash prize of $100,000.

STRETCH YOURSELF
BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF
Athletes know how stretching their muscles prepares them to compete and
leads to reduction in muscle tension, better circulation, increased energy and
stress relief. STRETCHLAB, which recently opened a franchise location in
Livingston, combines elements of physical therapy and sports training for what
the company calls “a new modality” in the fitness industry. Members receive
one-on-one personalized stretching services such as a 50-minute head-to-toe
deep stretch that addresses all the major muscle groups; trained flexologists
also lead small groups of clients through warm-ups. Monthly memberships
are available for four or eight visits per month, as well as drop-in classes.
