home FUNCTIONAL, AND JUST FOR FUN Across the open first floor, the living room is defined by its bold moldings that extend halfway up two stories. “The walls were painted butter squash yellow before,” Tamayo says. “There were traditional red curtains. It was very different.” The homeowner hesitated to embrace the idea of deep mahogany paint on the wood wall, but the completed design thrilled her. Bamboo shades and horizontal-striped panels let natural light flood the room, but also afford the option of privacy. Similarly, the mid-century modern cocktail table doesn’t block the pattern of the light-colored, cut-pile linen and wool carpet. The art deco lamps are from the luxury lighting company Arteriors. (Above, left) Tamayo and Guthreau created a built-in but- ler’s pantry situated on the other side of the living room sofa from the tree planted in a container. There’s a “touch of glam,” says Tamayo, in the glass tiles of its backsplash. (Above, right) A close-up of the starbursts and flowers on the cocktail table. A RELAXING RETREAT The second floor bedroom is large enough to accom- modate a four-poster bed. The metal of the lamp- stand and its Lucite base add a dash of trendiness. The en-suite bathroom offers a clean brightness, with white subway tiles and a marble bath. The beaded light fixture looks “subtle, like you were traveling and you saw this and liked it,” says Tamayo. ■ MILLBURN & SHORT HILLS MAGAZINE SPRING 2018 65
