hristian Kubick says he treats customers like they are members of his family , and that is why people continue to come to his family ’ s business for their hearing and optical needs . It ’ smore than selling glasses or hearing aids to people it ’ s about being able to see the changes inthem when they are able to hear and see correctly .

“ I get excited when Ican fit someone with a hearing aid that Iknow will make abig difference ,” Kubick says . “ I think it ’ s amatter of having your heart in the right place , and everything will follow .”
Kubick belongs to the third generation of his family to own Kubick Kubick . His grandfather purchased the business , which was then located in Orange , more than years ago , and dispensed gold , pince-nez glasses . In the 10s , Kubick ’ sfather , who for 20 years served on the state board of the ew Jersey Association of Ophthalmic Professionals , relocated the business to its current location on Millburn Avenue in Millburn . The family expanded their services to cover hearing aswell as vision loss .
For Christian Kubick , focusing on hearing was extremely important , since his mother had lost her hearing when hewas born . “ As akid , I thought maybe something was wrong with her ,” he says . He remembers how , as achild , he would ask for something and his mother would give him something completely different . He says it is amazing to watch people who feel as if they are heard correctly for the first time , and that it changes relationships .
Kubick loves to reach out to his patients , especially amidst the pandemic . He finds himself calling them , especially the elderly ones , often in order to give them aconnection to someone .“ They don ’ t have anetwork sometimes , and sometimes kids are further away ,” he says . Coaxed out of their isolation , he says his clients relax , and “ the oodgates open up .”
For Kubick , the most amazing thing is that his more isolated clients never really want to talk about themselves , but are always interested in how he and his family are doing . He says this makes him emotional . “ They often come into the office because it gives them aroutine ,” Kubick says . “ They didn ’ t want mejust to make an adjustment . They wanted toget ahug and talk about family .” ■
