WHEN IT’S TIME TO CHILL
(Above) The family room “needed something strong to hold the eye in
the room,” says Stewart. The custom-designed built-ins, for which Stewart
developed her own walnut finish and installed library downlights to accent
the accessories, serve this function while providing ample storage space.
“I put a bench seat in under the window and a round table where my
client’s daughter could color,” she says. “But it’s my client who likes to
sit there on her laptop, looking on to the beautiful backyard.” (Right)
The office, which is used by both clients, has a sofa with printed fabric
by Shumacher; the colors are repeated in the Roman shades. The map of
New York on the wall was a gift from wife to husband. The cocktail table
is from West Elm. (Opposite) The marble-topped brass table in the den is
elegant, yet nearly indestructible. At left, bone inlay runs through a classic
Moroccan table, playing up a “British country house feel.” ■
