The custom-designed built-ins, for which Stewart developed her own walnut finish and installed library downlights to accent the accessories, serve this function while providing ample storage space. “I put a bench seat in under the window and a round table where my client’s daughter could color,” she says. “But it’s my client who likes to sit there on her laptop, looking on to the beautiful backyard.” (Right) The office, which is used by both clients, has a sofa with printed fabric by Shumacher; the colors are repeated in the Roman shades. The map of New York on the wall was a gift from wife to husband. The cocktail table is from West Elm. (Opposite) The marble-topped brass table in the den is elegant, yet nearly indestructible.
