editor’s letter
T
here’s nothing like a
punishing late winter
to make us appreciate
spring, and getting our
bodies back outdoors
and moving again. I’ve always
understood that, when it
comes to health, “Use it
or lose it” is an expres-
sion to live by. And now
some hospitals are mak-
ing it easier for commu-
nity members to do just
that — even, and often
especially, after surgery
or illness — with their own gyms
staffed by physiologists and other
health care professionals. Read
“Fitness is the Best Prevention”
for details.
Another bonus of exercise is that
it makes us feel that we’ve earned
some leisure time. To fill some of
that, we endorse Alex, Inc., a new
television show on ABC featur-
ing sitcom star, filmmaker and
cover subject Zach Braff. In “Zach
Braff has More Stories to Tell,”
the Maplewood and South Orange
native recalls late great Pal’s Cabin,
Essex Green Shopping Center, and
the performing arts summer camp
where he discovered his acting
“utopia.”
Also helpful for relaxing: A calm,
cool setting. Our home feature
“Shades of Gray” demonstrates how
the right designer, in this case Short
Hills’ Ruth Richards, can create
surroundings that are at once serene
and gorgeous. The master bedroom
suite’s soft hues make it the perfect
setting for a nice afternoon nap.
Speaking of which, “Little
Humans Help Create a Big Idea”
introduces readers to Maplewood
entrepreneur Gabriela Anggono,
whose too-cute-to-be-true crib
sheets provide the perfect
backdrops for baby photo ops.
