“If you go to Planet Fitness, no
one is looking at your goals, or
monitoring your blood pressure,”
Toto says. “We look at everybody’s
specific fitness goals and consider
their limitations and medical history
so they can feel confident. We build
a lot of confidence for the medical
wellness model.”
Dan Whelan, the director of
outpatient rehabilitation services for
the Atlantic Health System, which
operates the Overlook Hospital-affili-
ated Atlantic Rehabilitation at New
Providence, shares that view. “We’re
not Gold’s Gym,” he says. “We’re for
patients who wouldn’t feel comfort-
able there. [Our facility] looks like a
regular gym would. There are tread-
mills, ellipticals, step machines where
