BEFORE
MAKING IT THEIR OWN
The couple tapped interior designer Greg Feller of Hudson Home in upstate New York to helpwith decorating the space. They had worked with Feller on their former home, also in Short Hills. Inspiration for the earthy color palette came from shells the family collected on their annual summer vacations to Martha’ s Vineyard. In the new sunken family room( above), Feller came up with the idea of adding stained bead board overhead, which adds warmth to the room with its 14-foot ceilings. A craftsman they found outside Philly made the piece the television rests on. Behind it is the pantry. CSM Artand Frame in Chatham framed all the artwork in the house.
Previous owners( Debra and Jonathan are only the thirdfamily to live here) had removeda front porch to enlarge the living room. The couple reversed that and added the porch back. Their contractor, James Loescher, noticed from the outside of the house that the transom windows over the living room windows had been covered( see below). That was remedied quickly after they came inside and poked a hole in the sheetrock revealing the colorful, gorgeous glass beneath it.
