THROUGH THE MERGER OF SEVEN PRACTICES, THE UROLOGY GROUP OF NEW JERSEY
(UGNJ) brings together 22 urologists practicing in 10 locations in Essex,
Hudson, Morris and Union counties. The group recently became one of
the very first physician practices in the nation to receive full accreditation
by the Joint Commission, typically awarded to hospitals.
Each of the devoted physicians at UGNJ offers treatment in an area of
specialty including prostate cancer, incontinence, BPH, erectile
dysfunction, male infertility, urologic stone disease and all other facets of
male and female urology.
Two of the dedicated physicians in UGNJ’s Millburn office-Dr. Alan S.
Helfman and Dr. Eric K. Seaman-share a common philosophy to provide
the highest level of privacy, comfort and coordinated care in a
personalized manner while they focus on different areas of the practice.
Always confident in following a path to the world of medicine, Dr.
Helfman traveled as far as Guadalajara to pursue his passion. He
attended medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara
and also received an MS degree in Natural Sciences at Roswell Park
Memorial Cancer Institute. In 2008 he joined UGNJ where he specializes
in urologic procedures including vasectomy, prostatectomy (prostate
removal surgery), kidney stones, bladder cancer and endoscopy. Dr.
Helfman has co-authored numerous journal articles on prostate cancer
therapy and in 2001 he received the Gallo Award for cancer research.

patients. In other words, in developing a relationship – I am best able to
see that the treatment addresses a patient’s lifestyle and needs.”
With his Executive MBA from Rutgers University, it was Dr. Seaman who
saw the need for the practice to grow, developed the right business model
and was the force behind the creation of UGNJ, a group of practitioners
who have achieved the highest level of patient care. But it is his reputation in the practice of medicine, as a leader in the field of male fertility,
which has garnered his place as a Top Doctor specializing in
microsurgical vasectomy reversal, microsurgical sperm retrieval,
varicocelectomy, medical treatment for infertility and vasectomy.
“My initial interest was in pediatric urology. But I took a slight deviation
realizing that through a specialty in male fertility, I could help in the
process of bringing new lives into the world” declares Dr. Seaman. “What
greater reward could there be.”
Dr. Seaman’s strong credentials include Columbia Presbyterian Medical
Center Internship and Urology Residency and a Clinical Fellowship from
Baylor College of Medicine in male reproductive medicine and surgery.
