The staging of this mantelpiece was one of the most talked about aspects of the house tour , says Harris-Ralff . She gives full credit to Merritt ’ s intricate wire “ rigging system ,” which creates an impression of the flowers being suspended in the air . “ We also had to create containers for them , because they can ’ t leak on wood ,” says Harris-Ralff . “ They look like sculptures .” Fresh flowers grace the glass coffee table as well . The designing duo decorated the tree , seen at left in the formal living room , with crystal ornaments and simple strings of white lights .
