Families are complicated, but they can sometimes make beauti-
ful music together. Grammy Award-winning American Folk singer LOUDON
WAINWRIGHT III, his ex-wife SUZZY ROCHE (originally from Park Ridge) and their
daughter, LUCY WAINWRIGHT ROCHE, will do just that when they perform together
at South Orange Performing Arts Center. As fans know, their music combines the
thoughtful lyrics and lovely harmonies of their extended-by-marriage clans, which
include Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright and Suzzy’s siblings in
The Roches. • $35-$45. 1 SOPAC Way, (973) 313-2787, sopacnow.org

CALLING ALL
CHRISTMAS CADETS
SANTA’S FLIGHT ACADEMY, which
provides kids with a unique, immer-
sive experience culminating in a visit
from Santa, is back at The Mall at
Short Hills, and will be open through
Dec. 24. The annual holiday attraction
creates adventures for kids combining
physical and virtual play. The setting is
the North Pole; “cadets” receive offi-
cial badges rendering them elite mem-
bers of Santa’s flight crew, are fitted
with virtual flight suits and partnered
with elves to prep Santa’s sleigh and
navigate the best course for the big
day. The experience culminates with a
snowfall dance party and, of course,
time with the big guy himself. Santa’s
Express Lane passes may be purchased
online to reserve a designated time for
the visit. • shopshorthills.com

MONICA + ANDY
GUIDES SHOPPERS
TO SOFT, ORGANIC
KIDS CLOTHES
If you’re launching a new business, it
helps to have a sibling who can share
advice based on his experiences estab-
lishing his own successful brand. When
Monica Royer wanted to start an online
children’s clothing company, she lis-
tened to her brother, Andy Dunn, who,
seven years earlier, had created the
online menswear line Bonobos. He told
her that if he had it to do all over again,
he would have opened physical stores
earlier. So, Royer’s business, MONICA +
ANDY, became the rare retailer to
launch its online business almost simul-
taneously with a physical store, in the
company’s headquarters city of
Chicago. Now the organic clothing
brand for babies and kids is opening a
“guideshop”— an increasingly common
setup at which the merchandise is
showcased, and shoppers get assistance
in placing online orders — in The
Mall at Short Hills. The Short Hills
lease for the shop on the lower level
near Macy’s runs through the holiday
season and into the spring. • 1200
