LOOKING BACK
Let it Snow
Circa 2000
Remember the old adage: The more things change, the more they stay the same?
Or as 19th century French novelist and journalist Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr wrote when he
was editor of the journal Les Guepes, “Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.” Much has
changed in our town since the last century, but the Snowflake Parade, which started in the
early 1980s, continues and every winter children, bundled up in ski jackets and ski hats and
flanked by their parents, march in it. In this 2000 photo of the 17th annual Millburn
“Snowflakes on Parade,” you can see two restaurants in the background: Basilico and the
Millburn Deli. Their menus have changed but their locations on Millburn Avenue haven’t,
and on cold winter days, you can tuck into them to warm up and chow down.
