Saeed says that she wanted the home to reflect her family’s origins.
With that goal in mind, she used reclaimed wood from a farm in
Missouri, where her husband grew up, to sheath the support beam and
to create the shelving in the kitchen, which was completely gutted
and rebuilt. The cabinets are from Canistoga Cabinets in Pennsylvania,
Saeed’s home state. Built-ins on both sides of the Quartz-topped
island store pots and service ware. The upholstered seats from West
Elm swivel and are easily cleaned. (Top) The dresser, globes and maps
in the eating area are all vintage, as is the ‘50s-era light fixture from
One Kings Lane. The table has a Saarinen base and plastic Eiffel Tower
shell chairs. (Above) Saeed created this little eating area for her three
kids. “It’s had many lives,” she says.
