E
veryone is looking for
a good night’s sleep;
most people rarely
get one. According
to the National Sleep
Foundation, sleep is
just as important to a
healthy lifestyle as diet and exercise.
And one way to rest easier is by
finding the right bedding. That’s
where Boll & Branch, a Summit-
based luxury bedding business that
opened its first brick-and-mortar
flagship location at The Mall at Short
Hills in September, comes in.
Creators Scott and Missy Tannen
think that finding high-quality
bedding shouldn’t be difficult. The
husband-and-wife team found out
“how little thread count has to do
with the comfort and quality of a bed
sheet,” says Missy, so they formed
the e-commerce company, selling
luxury linens made of 100 percent
organic cotton.
WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR
STARTING BOLL & BRANCH?
MISSY: In early 2012, Scott and I
were in the final phases of a master
bedroom remodeling project at our
home in Chatham. As is often the
case in a project like that, you wind
up stewing over each and every
decision. It seems silly now, but I
clearly remember returning from a
trip to The Mall at Short Hills one
night and telling Scott how confused
I was when I attempted to buy sheets
for our new king bed [they had been
sleeping on a queen]. I just couldn’t
figure out the real difference between
a $150 and $500 set of sheets. Of
course, Scott was not terribly sympa-
thetic and smugly said that he’d do
some online research and take care of
it. He didn’t wind up coming to bed
until very, very late. When we woke
up in the morning, he half-jokingly
said, “We have to start a sheets
