AMUSIC STUDENT ON AND OFF THE STAGE
Sixth-grader JACK SUAREZ KIMMEL knows how to study upand be prepared. The 11-year-old, who attends religious school at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange, where his mother teaches, just completed a sixmonth tour as acast member of the national touring company of School of Rock— The Musical. Kimmel was a swing, an actor who has to be ready to play any one of multiple roles if the situation calls for it— ifthe child cast in a particular role falls ill, for example. Appropriately enough, IRL Kimmel studies guitar at the School of Rock in Montclair, and heard about open auditions for the show through a fellow student. In addition to the guitar, Kimmel plays electric bass, upright bass and the drums; cast members played live instruments on stage, with no backing tracks.
