Millburn
Located in the heart of Millburn’s downtown,
LONGEVITY PERSONAL FITNESS recently
celebrated its own relatively long life, as it
passed the 25th anniversary of opening its
doors. The gym has enjoyed success with its
more intimate approach and a singlehanded
focus on personal training, says owner Michael
Romano. In addition to observing the anniver-
sary milestone, the gym is celebrating a wave
of younger customers. “We’re seeing more
young people in their 30s complaining of neck
and back pain,” he says. “Everyone walks
around looking at their phones with their
heads in their chest.” 12 Holmes St.,

BEST DRESSED
In a small shop on Millburn Avenue, LYN KOHL makes spectacular dress designs come to life.
Kohl has been designing custom dresses for 16 years, specializing in cocktail and bat mitzvah dress-
es. She works one on one with clients to recreate dresses they see in magazines or on celebrities;
she also creates designs from scratch to make the perfect gown for any occasion. After so many
years in business, Kohl has had the opportunity to see girls who came in for bat mitzvah dresses
return as grown women for a wedding dress. “It’s come full circle” she says. “Time just passes
so quickly.” This fall, she says, women who like more cover-up are in luck; varying sleeve lengths
and neckline styles, along with extra use of lace and illusion netting, allow for coverage with a
younger, flirty look. 525 Millburn Ave., (973) 467-7800

A VEGAN’S
DELIGHT
THE CONSCIOUS FORK is
the go-to place for vegan and
gluten-free dining. Nearly all the
food served there is organic, prima-
rily sourced at the Conscious Fork’s
farm in the Hudson Valley, and all
the dishes are made from scratch.
The menu is gluten-free except for
the breads, and many of them are gluten-free as well. Employee
Addison Nadler feels that the locally grown ingredients create
a sense of community that is special to The Conscious Fork.
“It definitely embraces that community sort of value that not
many other places have,” she says. “It’s all good for the heart
and body.” 97 Baker St., (973) 763-8030, consciousfork.com

A CREATIVE APPROACH TO TRADITIONAL
INDIAN DISHES
Although Poonam Rai can’t bring the rolling
green mountains and red skies of North
India to New Jersey, she can bring its many
flavors. Her first restaurant, CURRY TUB,
opened in Millburn this summer. After 10
years creating Indian dishes for catering at
weddings, corporate fundraisers and other
events in New Jersey and New York, Rai
decided that she wanted her customers to have access to her dishes on a daily
basis. Curry Tub is the first Indian restaurant of its kind, where customers build
their meals Chipotle-style: pick a base, a meat or fish, curry, and toppings to
create the perfect blend of Indian dishes that usually stand alone, such as
Jeeraloo rice and coconut curry. The food follows Rai’s family recipes, and
is prepared fresh every morning by her loyal staff. 40 Chatham Road,
