Back in2004, when Staci and Mitch Boyarsky brought their architect, David Rosen, to see the small two-bedroom Cape they were thinking ofbuying in Short Hills, Staci watched Rosen’ s face as he took it all in. He wasn’ t happy. Aside from the overwhelming smell ofcat urine, the house was in complete disarray with clutter everywhere.“ He thought we were nuts,” Staci says. Yetthe couple saw that the little house had good bones and potential tobe expanded so went for it. With Rosen on board, they spent the next ten years crafting the home of their dreams.“ You had such avision,” Rosen said to them once the work was finished. Avision, yes, and adream.

CALLING IN THE EXPERT
Before moving here, the Boyarsky’ s lived in a center-hall colonial in another part of town. There, they had worked withinterior designer, Linda Kennedy of L’ Entrepot, a design firm and store in Maplewood, to help with the interior. Soon after completing phaseone of the projectin their new house, which included bumping out the family room and second floor to create four bedrooms and three full baths, theytappedLinda again to create this warm modern space.“ I’ ddescribe Linda’ s look as very Elle Decor,” says Staci.“ She’ s wonderful at mixingold and new. Her look is very glamorous.” In the newfamilyroom the twoteamed to create a neutral interior with popsofcolor. The whiteside table wasone of apair Linda found, the Eames lounge chair is an heirloom from Mitch’ s family and the glass coffeetable wasdesigned by Linda. The Boyarsky’ s youngest son, Gavin, 10, eats breakfast at the roundLucite table( above) every morning. ➤
