It’s safe to say that this season is like no other; our young people will continue to learn, though where, when and how that will happen during the pandemic may be awork inprogress. But whatever form their education takes, there’s agood chance it will include lessons from that other big story ofthe past several months —the ongoing struggle for social justice. CINDY SCHWEICH HANDLER In “Teaching the Teachers,” Dr. Khyati Joshi, a frequent consultant to the Millburn Township Public Schools, shares how she helps instructors make all students feel included and welcome. “Promoting Scholarship, Family Style” describes counselor Marcia Hicks’ success in creating a structure at Columbia High School where minority students feel encouraged to thrive. And in“Calling, Kvelling, Always Communicating,” we ask Short Hills native and resident Jordana Horn about her efforts to coordinate the all-virtual Millburn-Short Hills Townwide Summer Read 2020 in conjunction with local store The Book House. Participants read and discussed Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X.
