BY ITS VERY NAME, TOUCHPOINT PEDIATRICS EMBODIES A STRONG PHILOSOPHY
ABOUT the relationship between a parent and child. The pediatricians at
Touchpoint include the children in age-appropriate discussions about their
own comprehensive health; physical, emotional and cognitive.
These family centered pediatric and adolescent philosophies are based on
the beliefs of Dr. Jennifer Shaw, the owner and administrator. She is one of
the first board certified developmental and behavioral pediatricians in the
country, as well as being board certified in general pediatrics. Touchpoint
Pediatrics, Dr. Shaw, Dr. Slavin and all the doctors at Touchpoint Pediatrics
have been nationally recognized by the NCQA as the highest-level Patient-
Centered Medical Home, a recognition of comprehensive pediatric care
set by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Bright Futures Best Practices
and the National Committee for Quality Assurance. All 4 pediatricians at
Touchpoint are honored recipients of numerous awards and accolades.
“Our practice is based on my deep-rooted belief in treating the whole child
and in educating the child and family. When a former patient who is now
27-years old, wants to come by to talk to me, I know I’ve done my job well,”
states Dr. Shaw. “It’s all about teaching the child to take responsibility for
their own health, whether it’s nutrition, healthy lifestyle habits or dealing
with an illness or learning disorder. The best treatment includes knowledge,

awareness and making good choices.” Graduating with honors in English
and Biology from Union College in Schenectady, NY, Dr. Shaw recognizes
the strong correlation between the humanities and medicine in treating the
whole patient. She received her M.D. from the University of Connecticut
and then completed a general pediatric residency and specialty fellowship at
Schneider Children’s Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New
York, where she received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Research and
Scholarly Performance.
Dr. Slavin graduated college from Rutgers University as a Rutgers University
Presidential Scholar, and he went on to receive his M.D. from Albert Einstein
College of Medicine as an Einstein Alumni Scholar. He completed his pedi-
atrics residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1999, after which he
returned. to New Jersey. He worked at a pediatrics practice in Wyckoff, NJ,
until he joined Touchpoint Pediatrics in 2011. Dr. Slavin particularly enjoys
the long-term relationships he has established with his patients and their
families, seeing them repeatedly throughout the various stages of their lives.
“Helping to shape confident, healthy children who come to the right deci-
sions on their own is what our practice is all about,” adds Dr. Shaw. In case
of emergency, a Touchpoint pediatrician is available 24/7 on weekends, holi-
days or after hours. Touchpoint Pediatrics remains an independent practice
where all well and acute care visits are with a board-certified physician.
