EVERY OUTDOOR OPTION (Left) Knapp used the same quartzite paving stones around the pool deck, and updated the pre-existing pool and its environs. The shade structure at left is built of cedar, with a custom-made pergola and tarp, and outdoor curtains that slide on an internal bar as a shower curtain would for privacy. The pool’s slide and basket- ball net are fun for the kids, and everyone can enjoy the hot tub. (Top) Glass tiles line the hot tub fascia. (Middle) Formerly, a deck extended from the back of the home; now a two-tiered addition of about 1,000 square feet faces the pool. The upper terrace’s surface floats on a pedestal 9 inches above the floor for draining. In this view, which can be seen by stepping out of the kitchen’s sliding doors and looking right, the terrace wraps around the home in an L shape. (Above) To the left of the entrance to the kitchen, the fully functioning outdoor kitchen has a refrigerator, sink, barbecue and ample seating and storage. The lower level houses a bathroom with a full shower, TV and kitchenette. MILLBURN & SHORT HILLS MAGAZINE BACK TO SCHOOL 2019 25
