neighbors “I’VE BEEN A FEMINIST MY ENTIRE CAREER. I BELIEVE THAT MAKING THE WORKPLACE MORE DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE FOR WOMEN AND PEOPLE OF COLOR WILL BENEFIT US ALL.” PAMELA KRUGER , VICE PRESIDENT OF CONTENT AND DIGITAL, CATALYST SHE JOINED CATALYST AFTER YEARS IN JOURNALISM. Kruger decided to join the organization after spending most of her career as a journalist. She has written for and/or edited publications ranging from The New York Times and Fast Company to AOL and CBS Interactive. Kruger’s last job in journalism was at Fortune magazine as deputy digital editor. She was responsible for a range of news coverage, including an article that examined candidate Donald Trump’s social media ties to white supremacists. In late 2016, she left Fortune to work as digital and editorial director at Columbia Law School. She launched the school’s social and content strategy, and built the digital team. 18 BACK TO SCHOOL 2019 MILLBURN & SHORT HILLS MAGAZINE SHE’S PASSIONATE ABOUT HER MISSION AT CATALYST. At Catalyst, “I manage a team of designers, edi- tors, writers, and web producers, and I oversee the creation of videos, print materials, web content, op-eds – vir- tually any communications materials across all our platforms,” she says. “I left [Columbia Law School] in late 2018 to join Catalyst because I am passionate about the mission, and it was an opportunity to use my digital and creative skills to help the organization increase its impact around the world.” SHE THINKS COMPANIES ARE FINALLY FOCUSING ON EMPOW- ERING WOMEN. “Change has been glacial. In the early 2000s, I wrote an article that was headlined some- thing like, ‘Why aren’t there more women at the top?’” she says. “More than 15 years later, we are still faced with the same questions. We know the answers – sexism, unconscious bias, maternity bias, lots of struc- tural barriers. But with the #MeToo movement, we are at an incredible moment, when many companies are taking dramatic steps to make big change. So, now I am cautiously optimistic.” SHE’S NOT THE ONLY EXECUTIVE AT CATALYST TO CHOOSE THE MILLBURN-SHORT HILLS AREA. “I just discovered that our new COO, Stacey Bain, lived in Short Hills for 20 plus years! She moved four years ago to another part of New Jersey.” ■
