LOUNGING AND
DINING
(Above) To the right of the entry-
way is the largest space for
entertaining and hanging out,
affectionately referred to as “the
lounge.” The rust-colored sectional
sofa is covered in a comfortable,
practical chenille fabric that feels
luxurious, but is durable. The
swivel chair with the bold pattern
works well for a room with big
dimensions because its occupant
can warm up by the fire, then
turn and engage in multiple
conversations. Above the mantel,
the artwork adds texture and
“visual tension,” says Ciardi. The
fireplace, another of many in the
home, serves as a frame for one
of two geometrical shapes made
with bone inlay; these can be used
as stools, cocktail tables and, as
we see here, sculptures. (Left) The
home’s kitchen required very little
in the way of updating. Ciardi
painted the walls in the same
Ashley Gray that he used on the
family room ceiling, and added
contemporary barstools to give it
a fresher feel.
