t started out as part of a bat mitzvah
project. Millburn resident Rachel
Gesner co-wrote the song, “I’m On
My Way,” with Dean Kravitz of the
Performer’s Theatre Workshop in
Maplewood. Julie Mazer, also of
Millburn, filmed a music video for the song,
primarily in Old Short Hills Park, Taylor
Park and the South Mountain Reservation.
Gezner performed the song at her bat
mitzvah. Now the 14-year-old hopes to use
the song to raise money to benefit children
with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
“I’m On My Way” marks her debut as a
songwriter, composer and recording artist.
“I thought it was cool to share my ideas
and put them into song,” she says. “The
whole thing was an amazing experience,
and I’d definitely do it again.”

schools, senior centers
and other venues. Her
music teacher at the Paper Mill, Mickey
McNany, passed away in December. Gesner
says that McNany taught her to put her
abilities to good use.
“She was so inspiring,” Gesner says. “She
always told me that you can use your talent
to give back to others. I want to make a
contribution like she did.”
Gesner’s goal is to raise $1,800 for the
International OCD Foundation, Inc.
