Millburn-Short Hills Magazine Back to School 2017 | Page 10

From the desk of I t’s back-to- school time, and that means that it’s also time for a fresh start. We took that to heart and, as you may have already noticed, updated the look of the magazine. We hope you like it! I also want to introduce you to the new Millburn/Short Hills editor, Cindy Schweich Handler. In this issue, you’ll meet our cover subject, South Orange actor James Freedson-Jackson. This 15-year-old sophomore at Columbia High School has a bright future ahead of him. He has shined in recent films like Cop Car, opposite Kevin Bacon, and The Strange Ones with Alex Pettyfer. You might also recognize him (as I did!) from the Netflix series Jessica Jones. Turn to page 34 and read more about how this talented teen balances acting with his academics. You’ll also get to know Millburn Middle School student Rachel Gesner. The 14-year-old wrote and composed a song to raise money to benefit children with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Gesner hopes to raise $1,800 through her campaign. Learn more on page 20. Focusing on school, “Raising Learners in the Age of Social Media” offers advice to parents on how to help their children be good students in an age of 24-7 social media stimulation. The List page will help with back-to-school shopping, and our Style page gives you fashionable first-day-of-college. Get your checklist ready! And writer Joyce Venezia Suss reviews South Mountain Tavern in South Orange. Cindy and I are going to work together to bring you the very best stories in the area. If there is a story you’d like to see in the magazine, feel free to send us an email at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you! ■ LAURA ADAMS STIANSEN 8 BACK TO SCHOOL 2017 MILLBURN & SHORT HILLS MAGAZINE
