We’ve had the beverage cart out several weekends since June - I hope it’s helped during these hot days. Since we started serving hot dogs again, it’s been a popular item. A hot dog and a bag of chips is just $5. making it a success. In case some of you don’t know, our receptionist Amanda, and a beloved employee for over 11 years, was diagnosed in May with lung cancer and underwent an operation. She is now in the middle of going through her four treatments of chemotherapy. The women’s golf division set up a donation website to help pay for Amanda’s medical and living expenses. You can help by visiting www.giveforward.com/fundraisers and search for Amanda Mordini. We recently implemented a lighting retrofit program which will cost $36,941 but after Snohomish County PUD’s rebate of $17,240 the net cost of the project will be $19,701. It is estimated to reduce our utility bill by $900 per month and it will pay for itself in 22 months. On June 1, we held a special event for the families of the victims of the Oso mudslide. The course was closed to regular play and opened for the public at the rate of $100 per round with a cart. The $8,800 we raised went into a trust account set up at Coastal Community Bank specifically for the families of the victims of this tragedy. I want to thank all the members who participated in the event or donated money. We now have 12 signed Charter Equity Plus Membership extensions and we have sold seven new $100,000 Equity Plus Memberships. I want to thank Rick Jorgensen for his hard work on this project and HOUSE COMMITTEE Margaret Kramer (Chair), Tim Shelton, Joe Upton, Gene Hertzke, Julie Jacobson and Candie Lambert Soon we will see our club in a new way when the LED lights are installed! The House Committee is also working with Cory and Meridith to update the Cedar Room. Business has increased and with additional improvements we will be able to continue to grow our bookings. We plan to replace the chairs and banquet tables as well as have the room painted. We are also looking into new chandeliers. When you finish your late afternoon round of golf you can now enjoy your favorite beverage and order from the lounge menu. Lounge hours have been extended to 8:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday with a limited menu. You can log in to the Member’s Only website at www.millcreek.cc to view the menus for lunch or dinner and check the calendar of events. GREENS COMMITTEE- PLEASE SAND DIVOTS! It has become so dry that most divots won’t grow when you replace them; instead they will shrivel up and die. The Green Committee urges members to do the following when you take a divot: 1. Throw divot into the rough 2. Sand divot; do not put sand down, then the divot and then more sand. The divot will die. 3. Smooth sand so it is level with the surrounding turf. Mounded sand deteriorates the fairway mower blades. The right way to practice on grass: Our grass practice range is taking a beating because of poor practicing techniques. You can tear up a lot less turf by taking a divot and then hitting your next shot off the edge of the back of the divot. Instead, many members create a random pattern of divots that uses up three to four times as much turf as necessary. Please refer to the diagram for the correct way to practice on turf. THE CREEKER | AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2014 The tennis club sale is still scheduled to close escrow July on 31 at a price of $1,550,000 and the Board of Directors have voted to pay off the mortgage of $1,103,
