A Lifetime of
Leadership
Pinnacle Five speaks, and people
listen. As the senior enlisted service
members in the U.S. military, these
five men spent much of their careers
preparing, leading and supporting
the force—ensuring Soldiers, Marines,
Sailors, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen
were ready and able to serve.
Today, this tight-knit group travels
the country touting the benefits of
hiring veterans and works to help ease
the transition to civilian life for service
members and their families.
“The most important thing we can
do is help veterans realize their value
in the commercial world,” said Vince
W. Patton III, who retired as 8th Master
Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard.

“We have to help them translate the
valor of their service to the ability to
lead in their business careers.”
Increasingly, companies nationwide
need more education about the skill
sets and capabilities of those men and
women who serve.
“For these new veterans and their
families trying to find a job has
become their new battle,” said Tilley,
president of Jack Tilley, Inc., and
founder of the American Freedom
Foundation. “There is an awareness
gap that we intend to close. It’s a
matter of national honor and it’s doing
what is right.”

Loans and its philanthropic arm,
Veterans United Foundation, have
teamed with the Pinnacle Five to
raise awareness surrounding military
employment issues. The five senior
NCOs recently toured the company’s
headquarters in Columbia, MO., and
got an inside look at how Veterans
United serves those who serve.
“I work with a lot of companies, and
I have never seen this level of passion
with each and every employee,” Herdt
said. “Every person I met was not
just excited about their job, but also
excited about who they were helping.
There is something special here, and
we're thrilled to have the opportunity
to work with Veterans United.”
