Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife
With its headquarters at Queen Elizabeth Park in Pietermaritzburg, the provincial
capital, Ezemvelo manages more than 120 protected areas and is a leader in
sustainable biodiversity conservation. It has recently broadened its focus to
become more relevant to communities living adjacent to its parks, primarily through
job creation and sustainable natural resource harvesting.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife is entrusted with the long-term conservation of the region’s
rich biodiversity for the people of South Africa. In more than 100 years of formal
conservation in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, the various departments and
statutory organisations that evolved into today`s KZN Wildlife have received many
formal awards and words of praise for the quality of their service to conservation,
and for the high standard of management of the province’s natural resources.
CANSA
NSRI
The National Sea Rescue Institute is a charity staffed by volunteers who are
on call day and night throughout the year. They have rescue bases along the
coast and on inland dams. Their goal is to prevent drowning through education,
through preventative measures and through rescue. Year after year they update
and improve on their skills and techniques and they continuously investigate new
technologies.
Their mission is to be the most admired and trusted rescue organisation in South
Africa, inspiring volunteers to join and stay, ensuring that funders are proud to be
associated with them and building national pride. They visit schools around the
country teaching children about water safety, what to do in an emergency, and
how to do bystander CPR. They have built an online training academy for their
crew and extended this platform to include free courses for the public as well.
Other preventative measures include emergency signage, pink rescue buoys for
emergency flotation, rescue swimmers, lifeguards and active patrols during peak
seasons.
A leader in the fight against cancer in SA since 1931, the purpose of the Cancer
Association of South Africa (CANSA), is to offer a unique, integrated service to the
public and to all people affected by cancer. Its mission is to be the preferred non-
profit leader that enables research with regards to lowering cancer risk, educating
the public regarding symptoms, screening and risk reduction, and providing care
and support to all people affected by cancer.
CANSA is committed to
connecting people facing
cancer with information,
day-to-day help, as well as
the emotional support they
need in the communities
where they live. Their aim is to
ensure that cancer survivors
and their loved ones don’t
have to face cancer alone;
they’re there to support them
through every step of their
cancer journey.
