DUNAT
Dunat is a dessert made with simple and basic ingredients and can
be prepared very fast. It is an everyday life dessert for women in
Afghanistan, prepared either for their children or in the event of a
sudden visit. There are multiple versions of “Dunat” on the ingredients
available.
INGREDIENTS:
1 kg plain flour
100 g cow butter
1 package of dry yeast
2 eggs
1 ltr of milk
4 packages of vanilla powder
1 kg icing sugar
sunflower oil
METHOD:
Dissolve the dry yeast in medium heat water.
Bring a large pot of milk to boil. When boiled, add 1 teaspoon of the
diluted yeast. Pour one teaspoon of icing sugar and stir. Remove
the pot from the fire. In a large bowl, break two eggs and mix them
together with 2 tablespoons of icing sugar, 1.5 tablespoon of butter
and vanilla powder. Pour the egg mixture into the milk mixture carefully
and continue by constantly stirring. Gradually add the flour and stir
thoroughly until all ingredients are homogenized. When ready, cover
the mixture. Set it in a warm place and put it aside to rise for an hour,
until doubled.
Grease a pan. Use the mixture and start creating medium sized discs.
Use a small cup, in order to create a small hole in the middle of each
disc. Heat oil in a pan and fry the discs. Once the discs are golden
brown, remove them from the fire and place them on a plate covered
with paper towel or absorbent paper in order to cool and absorb excess
oil. To serve, sprinkle with icing sugar or drizzle with honey.
Alternatively, you can use the same recipe by using mini baking pans,
creating mini individuals forms that will bake in the oven.
