communication role in Armenian reality and culture. Those who follow
Arabic TV channels also comprise a certain segment of the overall TV
audience – 15.3%.
When it comes to entertainment and cultural programs, Syrian
Armenians prefer Armenian channels, where as in terms of news they prefer
Arabic channels. The variety of TV programs watched by Syrian Armenians
reflects their individual identity: on the one hand, their attachment to
Armenian culture, on the other hand their bonding roots into the Arabic
society, as well as internal commitment towards it.
The role of the television during the first years of immigration of
Syrian Armenians is dual: the formation of a new civic identity mean while
maintaining the previous identity. However, that duality does not cause
internal conflict. On the one hand, Armenian Media streng then the
knowledge of Armenian culture among Syrian Armenians; on the other hand
contribute to their integration based on the creation of new identity by
engaging them into the up-to-date issues of Armenian society.
