Town of Newburgh police officers promoted to detective
Two Town of Newburgh Police officers were promoted
last month at the town council’s August 28 meeting.
Officers Mark Ellingson and Michael Sisia were both
promoted to detective, and were later sworn in that week
at the Town Clerk’s office by deputy town clerk Jeanne
Patterson, who happens to also be Ellingson’s mother-
in-law.
The town board meeting also scheduled several public
hearings to be held later this month. On September 25,
the town board will hold two public hearings discussing
proposed stop signs of the intersection of Third Street
and Center Street, as well as on Dewey Drive. These
hearings will begin at 7:15 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
Also discussed at the workshop meeting was the
replacement of the Meadow Hill Water Storage Tank.
The tank, located along Coach Lane, ruptured over 5
years ago and still needs to either be repaired to be put
back in service or demolished. Other existing in-service
water tanks in the area, such as the Frozen Ridge Road
tank, are over 20 years old and also need to be repaired or
replaced. The price to address this and another similar
tank in the area would cost at least $3.3 million.
Councilwoman Elizabeth Green stated that she believes
the town could have moved a bit faster on this project,
and wants the water storage tank repair/removal to be a
priority for the board.
“I don’t want this to drag on for months and months
and months. I think it should be a priority that we get

our prices and then we decide what we are going to do,”
stated Green.
The town board has yet to take action on the project.
