Newburgh cuts tax levy, rates Rematch

A $43.2 million general fund bud-
get calling for a second straight year
of reduced tax levies is in the hands of
the Newburgh City Council following its
presentation by City Manager Michael
Ciaravino and Comptroller John Aber.

With the general election just a week
away, Republican George Green once
again faces Democrat Richard Ostner in
a heated rematch for the job of Town of
New Windsor supervisor.
Ostner said he is running because residents want change.
“It’s become high time to end the
nepotism and cronyism the last 30 years
of the same regime has produced in this
town,” he said. “I want to instill term limits so this won’t happen again going into
the future.”
Ostner, who owns Gus’s Restaurant
and Tavern on Rt. 9W, will appear on the
Democratic and Working Families party
lines on the ballot in November.

Residents want a town government
with “greater transparency,” he said. If
he’s elected, Ostner promised that board
meeting agendas would be published well
in advance of meetings so “the public has
an idea of what is going on.”
“As it is right now, agendas are posted the same day as meetings,” he added.
“Residents are not engaged.”
