3 Mid Hudson Times, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 Minuta and Santiago face off for District 15 By LAUREN BERG Democratic candidate Sylvia Santiago is running against Republican candidate Joseph Minuta to replace current legislator Chris Eachus, who is retiring as District 15 Orange County Legislature. District 15’s area primarily includes the Town of New Windsor. Joseph Minuta A long-time Town of New Windsor resident, Minuta is the current Republican candidate for the District 15 Orange County Legislature. He has created an impressive career over the past 15 years as a local architect business owner overseeing multi-billion dollar projects and employing many county residents. Minuta has been a member of numerous not-for-profit and local government boards throughout his career, including sitting as a member on the Town of New Windsor’s planning board, zoning board and currently as an elected committee member. Because of these combined experiences, which also include chairing the NECSD finance committee and sitting as a member of the Orange County Water Joseph Minuta Sylvia Santiago Authority, Minuta describes himself as, “a fiscally conservative watchdog on the spending of tax dollars for construction and infrastructure projects,” and a candidate that has “a solid and successful understanding of budgeting, planning, economic development.” Now, Minuta is ready to make an even greater impa ct benefiting his community. His campaign’s priority is to protect taxpayers and encourage fiscal responsible with tax-payer money. He believes that stabilizing the district’s taxes will encourage new businesses and economic growth, which would provide more job opportunities and make it more affordable for families to live here: “I will use my business acumen and experience as an elected school board member to ensure every single County taxpayer dollar is spent responsibly and frugally. Protecting the taxpayers also means creating an economic environment that will help to recruit new businesses and create living wage jobs. Commercial business improves the community, provides jobs and helps the remainder of the community with tax burdens. I have a record and know-how of creating new businesses and voting for zero tax levy increases,” stated Minuta. Using his business skills and school board experiences, Minuta is passionate to continue serving and protecting the community he has been invested in throughout his lifetime.
