Before the retractions could be printed, Jacobson ordered an emergency meeting of the City of Newburgh Democratic Committee, All 30 members of the City Democratic Committee participated in the emergency meetings, either in person or via proxy, Jacobson told this reporter. The vote to retract the prior resolution was 16-13 with one abstention. Jacobson said. The committee then voted 23-0 with seven abstentions in favor of contributing $2,500 toward campaign expenses for the Jacobson team in the November election. “The prior resolution was improper,” Jacobson said. “Such actions are prohibited by county and state law.” Kennedy salvaged a spot on the November ballot by capturing a majority of write-in votes on the Independence Party line in the General Election. Republican mayoral candidate John Guidice is the third candidate on the ballot. Former Councilwoman Christine Bello and Republican Committee chair John Penney are running for City Council seats.
