Mid Hudson Times and the Sentinel. Before the retractions could be printed, Jacobson ordered an emergency
meeting of the City of Newburgh Democratic Committee,
All 30 members of the City Democratic Committee
participated in the emergency meetings, either in person
or via proxy, Jacobson told this reporter. The vote to
retract the prior resolution was 16-13 with one abstention. Jacobson said.
The committee then voted 23-0 with seven abstentions
in favor of contributing $2,500 toward campaign expenses
for the Jacobson team in the November election.
“The prior resolution was improper,” Jacobson said.
“Such actions are prohibited by county and state law.”
Kennedy salvaged a spot on the November ballot by capturing a majority of write-in votes on the
Independence Party line in the General Election.
Republican mayoral candidate John Guidice is the third
candidate on the ballot. Former Councilwoman Christine
Bello and Republican Committee chair John Penney are
running for City Council seats.
Congressman Maloney and Assemblyman Skartados
made no reference to party differences in making their
endorsements.
“I am proud to endorse Jonathan Jacobson for mayor
of the City of Newburgh because I know he will work
every day to make a difference for all the neighborhoods
of this city,” Maloney said Monday. “Jonathan’s extensive involvement in public service demonstrates his
commitment to making Newburgh a better place for all.”
Maloney also endorsed Jacobson’s running mates,
Harvey and Rayford,

“[They] are both educators in the Newburgh school
system who have seen first hand the issues that Newburgh
residents face every day. Newburgh needs a City Council
that can tackle the challenges that the city faces, and I
believe that Torrance and Hillary will begin that work
on Day 1.”
“We know that Newburgh can’t recover and do all
it needs to do on its own. We know we need a strong
partner in Washington. We look forward to working with
Rep. Maloney for the betterment of all of Newburgh,”
Jacobson said.
Assemblyman Skartados was equally strong in his
support of Jacobson’s team.
“I have known and admired Jonathan Jacobson ever
since I became involved in government and I am confident he will bring new life to the City of Newburgh,”
Skartados said. “Jonathan has a long history of involvement in all levels of government, and a strong and passionate commitment to Newburgh.
“He has a deep knowledge of the city, and when combined with his laser-like focus on important issues and
his consensus-building approach to problem solving, it
is clear that only great things can happen for everyone.
For all of those reasons, I offer my support and endorsement to Jonathan Jacobson for mayor of the City of
Newburgh,” Skartados said.
Assemblyman Skartados also endorsed Jaconson’s
running mates Harvey and Rayford, saying that
