Offering beer, wine, sandwiches and light fare, Ms. Fairfax takes over where Martha café left off. “We’re trying to offer quality meals at reasonable prices,” said owner Philippe Pierre. Ms. Fairfax combines the charm of a small café with the edge of a night-time hot spot. Pierre purchased the business when Martha closed its doors over the summer. “It was called ‘Martha,’ after Martha Washington, but Sally Fairfax was what I call Washington’s ‘true love,’” said Pierre, speaking about the aristocratic beauty who stole George Washington’s heart. Aided by soft lighting and lounge music playing on a stereo system, the restaurant had a mellow vibe one recent Friday afternoon. “The barbeque duck sandwich was served warm,” said customer Tom Walker. “It was fr
