Ann was born in Philadelphia the younger of two sisters , to Louis and Lena Stein who had emigrated to America from the Ukraine following the eruption of anti- Jewish sentiment at the beginning of the last century . She was still in school when they moved to New York where employment opportunities were better for her father .
In 1936 , shortly after graduating high school , she married her husband Samuel . After their marriage they moved to Newburgh where Samuel was employed by June Dairy . This began their life long attachment to Newburgh and the many friends they made there .
When the World War II began , they moved to Brooklyn because Samuel was employed repairing warships at the Brooklyn Navy Yard . In August 1942 , their first child , James , was born . In February 1951 , James first sister ,

Stacey was born , and in December 1952 , a second sister , Debra was born . Ann devoted herself to raising her family and volunteering for Jewish organizations such as ORT . She was also interested in art and decorating , and for a number of years had her own antiques business in Manhattan where she and her family lived .
In 1976 , she and her husband made Newburgh their second home and eventually it became their primary residence . After selling his knitwear company , Sam began a successful real estate business in Newburgh which , after his passing , is now run by their daughter Stacey . For many years , Ann and Sam enjoyed traveling eventually visiting every continent on the globe .
To this day , Ann never forgets a birthday or an anniversary , a book she has read , or a film she has seen .
On October 21 , family and friends will gather in Newburgh to celebrate her centenary .
Police make arrest in Carson Ave . homicide
A 59-year-old fugitive was arrested in connection with the death of a City of Newburgh woman on Monday . Kevin Cook was charged with second-degree murder .
According to City of Newburgh Police , Cook was a fugitive from justice in Illinois , where a warrant for his arrest was issued in August . Cook had been staying with a local relative when he was taken in .
City police responded to 88 Carson Avenue for an unattended death report at 2:40 p . m . on Monday . They found 47-year-old Tanya Smith dead in a second-floor bedroom . Police released no further information in the case .
It is believed to be the fifth homicide to take place in the city this year , following the shooting death of Raul Diaz- Martinez on Chambers Street in June .

Orange County District Attorney David M . Hoovler announced that on Tuesday , Hector Camacho 45 , of Wallkill , pleaded guilty to Attempted Aggravated Assault Upon a Police Officer and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Drugs , both of which are felonies , for an incident which occurred on May 18 , 2017 , when Camacho lead police on high speed chase through the City of Newburgh , Town of Newburgh and Town of New Windsor .
At the time that Camacho pleaded guilty before Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown , he admitted that he knew police were attempting to stop him when he drove his car in excess of 120 miles per hour on Interstate 84 in the opposing lane of traffic . Camacho admitted

his car into one of the pursuing City of Newburgh Police cars while on State Route 52 in the Town of Newburgh in an attempt to injure the sergeant driving the car and evade police . Camacho admitted driving while under the influence of heroin during the high speed pursuit . Fortunately no police officers were injured in the incident .
At the time that Camacho pleaded guilty prosecutors stated on the record that they will be recommending that Camacho be sentenced to seven years in state prison for Attempted Aggravated Assault upon a Police Office and a concurrent one to three years in state prison for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Drugs when he is sentenced on January 4 , 2018 .
Hoovler thanked the City of Newburgh Police Department , the Town of Newburgh Police Department , the Town of New Windsor Police Department and the New York State for the apprehension of Camacho , and for ensuring that no innocent civilians or police officers were injured during the pursuit .
“ Those who endanger the police and the rest of the community by leading the police on highspeed pursuits must face serious punishment ,” said Hoovler . “ It is fortunate that no police officers or innocent motorists were injured or killed as a result of this defendant ’ s actions . This case demonstrates the dangers that our police officers face every day .”
