“ Congratulations . You made it out of bed . Come inside for your reward .”

On a recent weekday morning , a sandwich board offered a little earlymorning humor outside of the newlyopened Deja Brew Café and Gallery on Liberty Street . “ We open at 6:30 a . m .,” said co-owner Effy McNicol .
She whipped up a tasty latte with a shot of espresso , and served it with a bubbly layer of frothy heaven that day . The concoction , aptly named “ Red Eye ,” delivered an instant jolt of energy .
Located on Liberty Street near the corner of Benkard Avenue , the café is the latest in a collection of cafes and eateries to open doors along Liberty Street - the City of Newburgh ’ s own “ Restaurant Row .”
The café menu includes espressos , cappuccinos , lattes and regular coffee , as well as pastries from Rockland Bakery and cheesecake from Dana ’ s Decadence .
McNicol said the café will begin offering a variety of teas later this month .
The space also houses a sleek art gallery . The café and gallery was one of the stops on the Newburgh Open Studios tour , held on the weekend of Sept . 30 .
Walking into the café , a person could be forgiven for thinking they were visiting a trendy art gallery in SoHo . The walls are white and the furniture is modern . A long , slate-colored , rectangular table sits in the middle of the café , dressed with see-through chairs that disappear underneath it .
“ We tried to keep it clean and simple ,” said McNicol , referring to herself and business partner John Bonhomme .
Natural light illuminated about a dozen mounted art pieces last week . An abstract painting of woman in a dark gown by Marcos Ramos Enivo and a striking , primary-color piece by renowned mural artist Dasic Fernandez stood out . “ We ’ ll have rotating art ,” said McNicol , along with various arts events .
The café also offers free Wi-Fi service .

“ We ’ re enhancing the neighborhood ,” McNicol said , when asked why she and her partner chose to open the café in a less developed area along Liberty Street . “ We ’ re bringing a positive space to the community ,” she said , and serving Washington Heights .
The mild weather has allowed the café to open up its spacious backyard , which boasts bench-and-table seating in a quiet , yard setting . McNicol said they would soon build a raised seating area that will also serve as a performance stage .
The café and gallery will host a “ Paint and Sip ” event from 5:30 p . m . to 8 p . m . on Thursday , Nov . 2 . Tickets are $ 40 per person . Deja Brew will also hold an open mic event on Nov . 17 .
The café and gallery is located at 15 Liberty Street . Hours are 6:30 a . m . to 4 p . m . every day . Visit the Deja Brew Café and Gallery on Facebook and Instagram for news and upcoming events . For more information , email DejaBrewNewburgh @ gmail . com .
