HALL Life is slowly returning to normal following last Tuesday’s storm that claimed two lives in the Newburgh area and caused untold damage In the City of Newburgh, Gina Garzon, 11, was killed when a fallen tree crashed onto a car on Robinson Avenue. She and her mother had arrived home and were unloading the car at 4:15 p.m., when the wind caused a large tree to topple onto the vehicle. The 11 year old girl was extricated from the vehicle by the fire department and transported to St. Luke’s hospital where she was pronounced dead. The mother suffered minor injuries. The second fatality occurred shortly after 5 p.m. at the Mount Saint Mary College Desmond Campus on Albany Post Road in the Town of Newburgh. Lisa Resnick, 58, of Rosendale was killed when a tree fell on her vehicle. Hundreds of storm knock downs created a huge fallen tree removal problem for homeowners in the town of Newburgh. Residents also backed a more than $5-million budget for the Newburgh Free Library. Ramona Burton was newly elected to the Newburgh Board of Education with 776 votes. Sylvia Santiago was also elected to the board with 650 votes. Incumbent board member Philip Howard was welcomed to a third term with 882 votes cast. Mark Levinstein came in fourth, winning 553 votes. He will serve out the remainder of the term left by former board member Domenic Tebano, who resigned earlier this year. Carrie Robinson and Continued on page 4
