Volunteers needed for Newburgh Illuminated

By BRITTANY AMBROSINO
The Newburgh Illuminated Festival is bound to bring harmonious unity to the different cultures and residents of the area . This is the festival ’ s fourth year appearance in the City of Newburgh . A festival of such impact cannot be run alone and this one , in fact , is run completely by volunteers . According to Caryn Sobel , Co-Director of Volunteers for the festival , the entire committee and sub committees are all made up of volunteers . These committees include the Fund Raising Committee , Marketing Committee , Logistics and Setup Committee , Program / Events Committee , Music Committee and many more .
What sets this year apart from the past is that volunteers are now being assigned in shifts . By doing this , volunteers will be able to help run the festival but also have time to enjoy it too . Volunteers who wish to work multiple shifts , or the entire day , are surely needed and can be put to work .
The various tasks volunteers are assigned include : helping out at the various music stages , helping set up the festival in the morning , breaking down the event that night , directing traffic around the event by assisting at the many barricades set up , serving as ambassadors to the public by giving out festival information , becoming trolley ambassadors who help lead tours , help out and assist artists and performers , be of help at the children ’ s activities , assist vendors and more .
The festival committee is still currently looking for 100-150 additional volunteers for the day of the festival . When signing up as a volunteer , you have the opportunity to choose a committee to help with and whether you ’ d like to work set up , morning , afternoon , evening or clean up shifts . If you ’ re interested in becoming a Newburgh Illuminated Festival Volunteer , visit www . newburghilluminatedfestival . com / volunteers to sign up .
The Newburgh Illuminated Festival will be taking place on Saturday , June 18 , from 12 to 10 p . m . on the intersection of Broadway and Liberty Streets . For more information , visit newburghilluminatedfestival . com .

City of Newburgh police crimeactivity reports state there were at least four additional bullet-to-body shooting incidents in May .
Residents and community leaders
In response to concerns expressed by residents that funding was being taken away from needed community policing last week , city Police Chief Dan Cameron said there is currently three times as much grant funding for community policing than for video cameras .
Three new video cameras were obtained through a federal grant earlier this year . City police are also seeking funds from the U . S . Department of Justice Bureau for Justice Assistance to pay for a “ ShotSpotter ” system , which instantly notifies police of shooting activity with
