4 Mid Hudson Times, Wednesday, July 17, 2019 I n B rief No sign of foul play in Downing Park death On July 12 at approximately 11:30 a.m. the City of Newburgh Police Department received a call of a male lying face down in the pond at Downing Park near the area of Third Street and Robinson Ave. Upon arrival, with the assistance of the City of Newburgh Fire Department, a male was brought to the shoreline where he was later pronounced dead by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The male was identified as 22 year old Santos Alirio Mendez-Perez. There were no obvious signs of foul play, however this incident is being investigated by the Detective Division pending the autopsy results. Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact the City of Newburgh Police Department at (845) 561-3131. We look forward to continuing to work with the Senator on this mission.” Truck fire on the Thruway Sanitation bills delayed Due to a delay in the mailing of the July 2019 sanitation bills, the City of Newburgh will accept payments on the July 2019 sanitation bills through August 12, 2019 without applying late charges. After this date, standard late fees and/or penalties will be applied. Skoufis secures $15K for Newburgh Free Library Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) announced that he secured vital funding of $15,000 for the Newburgh Free Library to purchase interactive digital kiosks. “I was proud to fight for the funding for these kiosks that will help spread information to the Newburgh community and expand access to educational and professional materials,” said Senator Skoufis. “The reality is that not everyone has access to technology, so our libraries must be equipped to provide those resources because they are the spaces so many depend on; I will always continue to fight for and support our community’s information hubs.” Bob McCormick Cronomer Valler Firefighters were dispatched to a fully involved tractor trailer fire,northbound mile marker 64.4 on New York State Thruway on July 12. A tractor trailer was at Plattekill Rest Area when the fire started. Cronomer Valley Command requested one engine from Plattekill FD to scene,fire fighters used hand lines to extinguish the fire and hand tools to dismantle the cab. The tractor spilled 100 gallons of fuel. Orange County HAZMAT and Maybrook FD responded with their spill trailer. New York State Police were at the scene along with State DOT representatives. Winona Lake was on standby at Cronomer Valley Firehouse during the incident.
