By SHANTAL RILEY

Orange County has resumed its
electronics recycling program at the
Newburgh and New Hampton solid waste
transfer stations. After a five-month
hiatus, electronics recycling began again
on Monday.
“We are glad to offer this helpful and
environmentally responsible electronics
waste recycling program,” Orange County
Executive Steve Neuhaus stated this
month. “All of us should be conscious
of taking personal responsibility and
respecting our environment.”
Both transfer stations accept printers,
fax machines, computer monitors,
computer towers, scanners, small servers,
cables, wires, laptops, cell and smart
phones, tablets, video game consoles, DVD
players, VCRs and digital music players.
Small appliances, microwaves and vacuum
cleaners are not accepted.
Town of Newburgh audit shows no improper practices
Following a thorough review of
the Town of Newburgh’s financial
statements in 2017, a team of
independent auditors from RBT CPAs
presented an Audit Report on June 25,
2018. The report included an opinion
on financials indicating that no matters
came to their attention and showed no
improper accounting practices.
Televisions, including cathode ray tubes
and flat screens, are accepted at a rate of
$10 per unit with no restrictions on size.
All other accepted electronics will be taken
free of charge.
Businesses, municipalities and schools
are charged the same fees as residents for
electronics recycling. However, they must
call county Recycling Coordinator Ermin
Siljkovic at (845) 291-3246 to schedule
a disposal date. Municipalities and
businesses are also required to submit C7
paperwork before transporting electronic
waste to a county transfer station.
Visit the Orange County website at
Orangecountygov.com/efs for C7 forms and
information on solid waste and recyclables
accepted at county transfer stations. The
Newburgh Solid Waste Transfer Station is
located off Route 17K, next door to Orange
County Choppers. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday, and
7 a.m. until noon on Saturdays.
