Road work to begin in East End

A New Jersey contractor will begin
work to rebuild street curbs in the East
End of the City of Newburgh in the next
several weeks. The city awarded a bid to
A-Tech Concrete Company to make street
curbs compliant with the Americans with
Disabilities Act. The curb upgrades will
be followed by road paving.
“These
roads
need
immediate
attention,” said Newburgh Mayor
Torrance Harvey at City Hall last week.
The first phase of the curb-ramp
improvement project will include 11
intersections in the northeast section of
the city, along Grand and Montgomery
streets. Once the curbs are constructed

Consolidated Iron site -adjacent to

to include reconstruction of curbs along
Liberty Street, north of Broadway. The
city will spend up to $420,000 for the
first phase of work, using a combination
of state funds from the Consolidated
Local Street and Highway Improvement
Program (CHIPS), the Extreme Winter
Recovery Program and Local PAVE-NY.
The New York State Department of
Transportation also plans to begin paving
a section of Route 9W/Robinson Avenue,
from Broadway south to the Town of
New Windsor border this summer. The
road work will also involve modification
of handicap ramps to make them ADA-
compliant.

the state is expected to begin work by the
end of this month or early August. Route
32, Mill Street and Broadway will be used
to detour traffic.
