Decorated U.S. Army Veteran laid to rest

Rolling Thunder Members gathered last Wednesday in
front of Town of Newburgh American Legion Post 1420
to receive the remains of former Army Sgt Melissa
Woodruff, 30, whose body was discovered last month
in a wooded area in Tennessee and whose death is
currently under investigation. Following prayers and the
playing of Taps, her body was escorted to Orange County
Veteran’s Cemetery in Goshen. Woodruff, a decorated
Veteran who served in Iraq, was in the United States
Army for four and a half years. She leaves behind an
8-year-old son.
More students eating breakfast in Newburgh schools

“We have similar numbers across our entire district,”
said Padilla.
“My school is taking care of me, making sure I’m the
best I can be,” an unidentified rapper sang in a video
presented at the meeting and recorded by NFA visual arts
and communications students for the program.
According to a 2015 school district press release,
kindergarten through grade-8 buildings in the district
are combining breakfasts served in the classroom and
grab-and-go breakfasts from cafeterias. Newburgh Free
Academy has continued using a cafeteria-breakfast model
with free breakfasts also offered in vending machines.
