Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at New Hope Baptist Church on Monday, 48 years after the civil rights leader’s passing. “This is a day for the community to talk about a legacy of service,” said Henderson. “It’s a day on, not a day off.” Henderson, a Newburgh native and the North Atlantic regional director of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, was the keynote speaker at the Black History Committee of the Hudson Valley’s annual MLK Day celebration. This year’s event theme was “A Legacy of Service.” “Dr. King has brought us a long way,” Henderson said, but social change is still needed in the United States, a country grappling with racism, inequality and gun violence. “We know gun violenc
