“ Once the project is designed and approved , the design will be put out to a competitive bidding process for award to a construction firm ,” city Engineer Jason Morris said last week .
Hudson Valley Engineering Associates will create the new bridge design . The Newburgh City Council voted last week to approve $ 364,949 in spending for the company ’ s design services .

mourn so we can be better prepared to fight to get our Democracy back ,” Tremblay asserted .

Traffic traveling over the span has been restricted to cars and trucks weighing less than three tons .
The bridge replacement is expected to cost $ 2.1 million , with 80 percent of the costs covered by the Federal Highway Administration . Senator Bill Larkin Jr . has acquired the additional 20-percent local match for the city , said Morris , so no costs are expected to be incurred by city taxpayers .
The city will send out a request for qualifications later this month for a design to replace the Walsh Road Bridge , the engineer said . This bridge project will also receive 80 percent of its funding through the FHWA . The city ’ s 20-percent match will come through a previous bond anticipation note , said Morris .
The city is now waiting for permits to commence work on the Mill Street Bridge . The BAN-funded rehab of the bridge is expected to be completed by the end of the year , said Morris .
Anti-Trump protest march scheduled for Friday
Signs are not allowed as part of the protest march . However , slogans and messages may be painted onto black umbrellas , Tremblay said . “ I want the group to become one in unity ,” she said . “ We will be indivisible .”

Turnbull re-elected minority leader of OC legislature
Orange County Legislator Matt Turnbull ( D , WF – 11 , Hamptonburgh , Blooming Grove ) was re-elected Minority Leader at the reorganization meeting held on January 6 .
In addressing the Legislature , Turnbull thanked his fellow Democrats for placing their faith in him to lead . He said he would work with the Republican Majority where they could find common ground , but that he would also standup for Democratic principles .
Turnbull said that government works best when all views are heard . He cited the fact that it was the Democrats who fought to stop the County from selling Valley View Nursing Home . “ We were being told that the County could not run Valley View and break even and it was to cost us 20 million dollars a year . Last year , Valley View more than paid for itself and is running a surplus when all State and Federal reimbursements are included .”
The Democrats prevailed and the renovations are costing one-half of the alternative proposal to build from scratch . This is saving taxpayers approximately $ 75 million dollars , added Turnbull .
