Three guns , drugs seized , seven arrested , in Newburgh

Police in Newburgh arrested seven people , seized three loaded and defaced handguns as well as drugs , during a warrant search at 41 Benkard Avenue early Thursday morning .
City Police and the Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force raided the address at around 6 a . m . In addition to the guns , the seizure included approximately 31 grams of heroin , 25 grams of cocaine , 23 pills identified as Oxycodone , a bulletproof vest , ammunition , several scales and drug paraphernalia .
Arrested were Newburgh residents Russell McDonald , Sr . 55 ; Russell McDonald , Jr , 25 ; Rashawn McDonald , 23 ; Shantiqua McDonald , 26 ; Alasia Johnson , 30 , Jasmeen Punter , 29 ; and Jessica Tsatsaron , 24 . All are charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon and four counts of felony and one misdemeanor count drug possession .
All were processed and held for arraignment in city court .

Town of Newburgh Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred on New Year ’ s Day at West Stone Street . Police were responding to a reported vandalism at the residence at 5:39 p . m . Upon arrival of responding officers , an occupant of the house was found in the street with multiple stab wounds . The 33 year-old male was taken to the Newburgh Campus of St . Luke ’ s Cornwall Hospital for treatment . A 32 year-old male relative was taken into custody . The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending , according to town police .

The parties now appear to be trying to come to a settlement . “ I write after consultation with and upon consent of the plaintiff ’ s counsel to advise the court that the parties are still making efforts to resolve this matter ,” Ciaravino ’ s attorney David Posner of McCabe and Mack wrote to U . S . Southern District Court Judge Kenneth Karas on Oct . 21 .
“ Independent of this lawsuit , and indeed before it was filed , the city began efforts to re-write its electroniccommunications policy . That effort has taken longer than initially anticipated . It is hoped that upon completion of this task the issues in this lawsuit will be resolved .”
Attorneys asked to be given until the end of January to determine whether the Ciaravino and the city would move forward with a motion to dismiss the case . The judge granted the request on Christmas Eve .
It is not yet clear how much taxpayer money has been spent on attorneys defending Ciaravino and the city in the case . The City of Newburgh Comptroller ’ s Office was unable to respond in time to provide information for this story on how much money has been spent in the lawsuit .
Holmes is seeking more than $ 75,000 in damages related to a fall inside the Wal-Mart Superstore on Route 300 in August . According to state Unified Court System records , Holmes began legal proceedings against Wal-Mart in

August , sued Jackson Auto Sales in 2013 , Robert Riley in 2011 and Tech World in 2007 .
She also sued her former employer , IBM , in federal court in 2005 , claiming the company discriminated against her by passing her over for promotion . The case was settled in 2006 .

Four teens arrested in Newburgh cab robbery

Four teenagers – two were 16 , the others were 15 – were arrested early Thursday for allegedly robbing a Newburgh cab driver at gunpoint .
Newburgh Police were executing a search warrant in the area of Benkard Avenue at 6:20 a . m . when they heard a shot fired in the neighborhood .
Officers spotted a taxicab fleeing the area . The driver was located and told police he had been robbed at gunpoint on Renwick Street by four masked men , one of whom fired a single shot from a rifle . The driver was not injured and the vehicle was not struck during the incident when he was called to pick up a fare and the four got into his cab .
During the robbery , cash , the taxi radio and cell phone were taken from the victim .
Detectives and officers with the aid of a K-9 unit tracked the suspects to 15 Liberty Street where police found a . 22 caliber rifle and the stolen items .
The suspects , whose names were not released because of their ages , were charged with armed robbery .

Armed bank robbery in Town of Newburgh

A man armed with a . 357 revolver held up the Chase Bank branch on Route 9W next to the I-84 exit ramp early Tuesday afternoon .
The suspect , said to be an African American man , had his face covered when he went into the bank and demanded money .
He fled northbound on Route 9W in a Red Camry that police said may have been stolen .
No further information was available at press time on Tuesday .
