Inside the Cream Boutique .
Shoes , boots , jewelry , blouses , jackets , dresses , eveningwear , purses , gloves , tights , hats and bags . A tasteful selection of urban-inspired fashions can be found at Cream Boutique – a new clothing store on Liberty Street .
The boutique is one of several new businesses that have opened in the Liberty Street business district in the last year .
“ We try to keep it very modern and elegant ,” said store co-owner Manal Flournoy , who described the store ’ s clothing as “ trendy ” with a streetwear influence and luxury style . “ We ’ re trying to bring it to the customer at an affordable price ,” she said .
The store was bright and sunny on a recent Thursday . An enormous , golden light fixture graced the entryway . Rows of jackets and dresses lined the racks . Standout items included a white-andblack-striped , faux-fur jacket and formfitting dresses covered in a multi-color sequins . Several of the dresses were frilly and red , in style with the upcoming Valentine ’ s Day holiday .
Tables displayed a variety of jewelry – bracelets , dangling earrings and rhinestone chokers . A line up of clearplastic boots stood arranged in a shiny semi-circle . A rack with all items marked 50-percent off featured glimmering tights and assortment of short dresses . “ We try to sell the right items at the right price ,” said Flournoy .
The clothing comes from the west coast . “ We do our buying in Los Angeles ,” said Flournoy . “ Everything is shipped from L . A . because they have a better women ’ s market than New York City . For boutique fashion , L . A . gets the fashions faster , because everything is coming from overseas . The garments literally get there faster .”
Flournoy works as an account executive for Brooklyn Xpress , an urban apparel company in New York City . Boutique co-owner Amal Ishak owns the Karapouz Kidz Boutique in Chester .
When asked why they decided to open a clothing store in the City of Newburgh , Flournoy said there was a demand for “ young , hip , cool clothes ” in the city . And , she and her business partner wanted to be a part of the city ’ s revitalization .
“ I was so impressed with what was happening in the city ,” Flournoy said . “ The more we spoke to people , the more we realized this a great place for us .”
So far , business has been good . “ We ’ ve gotten a great reaction ,” she said . “ A lot of people are just happy to see us here . The business community has been very supportive and willing to collaborate . People want to see us succeed . We may not have had that encouragement somewhere else .”
The store gets new styles in weekly . The boutique accepts orders through Facebook and Instagram .
Winter store hours are noon to 6 p . m . on Thursday and Friday ; 11 a . m . to 6 p . m . on Saturday ; and 11 a . m . to 5 p . m . on Sunday . Visit Cream Newburgh on Facebook or Cream _ Newburgh on Instagram .
