Seoul Kitchen opens on Liberty Street

By SHANTAL RILEY sriley @ tcnewspapers . com

Walk through the doors of Seoul Kitchen on Liberty Street and you know something different has come to the City of Newburgh . “ It ’ s a Korean mom ’ s kitchen ,” said restaurant owner-chef Heewon Marshall . “ It ’ s very homey .”

The small , Korean restaurant serves all-natural , authentic Korean food . The eatery opened its doors this week .
The restaurant was quiet earlier this month . Windows were covered topto-bottom with paper and fresh paint coated the walls in earthy , green tones that complimented traditional , Korean artwork .
“ It ’ s homemade , Korean food ,” said Marshall , who named the restaurant after her hometown of Seoul , Korea . “ I don ’ t deep fry .”
The menu offers both meat and vegetable-based dishes including rice cakes , sweet potato noodles , dumplings , spicy tofu and stuffed chicken . The restaurant serves both eat-in and takeout menu items . Entrées sell for $ 10 to $ 15 .

Seoul Kitchen opened in the City of Beacon five years ago . Marshall decided to move the business to Newburgh when the building where she was renting was sold . “ This is a busy area ,” Marshall said of the burgeoning , Liberty-Street restaurant scene . “ It ’ s an historic area , a beautiful place .”
