D . A . Collins Construction Co ., the storied construction company that played a key role in an upgrade of Stewart International Airport ’ s runways improvements in 2013 has just opened a regional office in New Windsor .
And New Windsor Chief of Staff Colin Schmitt in welcoming D . A . Collins Companies to New Windsor on July 25 said , “ This is yet another example of how New Windsor is leading the way for business development and expansion opportunities available in the region .”
Schmitt said , “ We welcome D . A . Collins and their regional office to New Windsor .”
But this storied company is no stranger in New Windsor .
D . A . Collins ’ New Windsor subsidiary , Jointa Lyme produced 350,000 tons of asphalt for Stewart International Airport ’ s construction upgrades of key runways 9-27 and 16-34 in 2013 using the Jointa company ’ s 400-ton-perhour portable New Windsor asphalt plant .
D . A . Collins ’ recent arrival as a staffed headquarters in New Windsor cements the storied company ’ s ties with the Town of New Windsor and puts D . A . Collins not just in line for more airport work but also opens doors to housing development that ’ s been on the upswing before the New Windsor town planning board .
Meanwhile , the DA Collins companies celebrated their 70th anniversary in business this June and now count more than 500 employees representing unions and open shop affiliations .
The company maintains a $ 112-million equipment fleet , three quarries , four asphalt plants , one portable concrete plant ( Jointa Lyme in New Windsor ).
Among the company ’ s assests is a determined and hugely successful family business with humble beginnings .
As the company ’ s story goes , company founder Donald A . Collins started a small business behind his mother ’ s kitchen in upstate Mechanicsville .
Today , DA Collins can boast humble beginnings that with determination and foresight has , as of this June , become 70 years in business , with more than 500 employees , and a family-run business with more than 500 employees of both unions and open shop workers while maintaining a $ 112-million equipment fleet , three quarries , and four asphalt plants ( including the 400-tons an hour one in New Windsor . )
At a recent ribbon cutting at New Windsor Town Hall New Windsor Chief of Staff Colin Schmitt said , “ the arrival of D . A . Collins is another sign that New Windsor is open for business .”
And that business includes the company ’ s wide range of environmental services such as specialized environmental remediation solutions to “ public and private companies throughout the eastern seaboard .”
For example , D . A . Collins Environmental Services tackled Superfund cleanups , removed 2,040 cubic yards of chemical sealants , plastics , and battery separators at the W . R . Grace Superfund site in Acton , MA .
The expansive DA Collins family of more than 50 services for sale includes bridge building , dams and landfill creation as well as landfill remediation .
