The sign for E . M . Weikert Plumbing still adorns the exterior of M . Lewis Men ’ s Boutique .

M . Lewis Men ’ s Boutique , run by Michael Carter , has found its home at 110 Liberty Street .
The building was purchased by Michael ’ s sister Shaniqua Carter nearly 2 years ago . Shaniqua , a real estate agent in Brooklyn , saw the building as an opportunity to open a business and have a place to retire in the future . She gave the building to her brother to renovate and take over .
Michael Carter plans to support local artists in the area by selling their products at the shop . He is selling clothing brands and products from local artists around New York . The clothing is a more simple style not far from Urban Outfitters . He hopes to eventually create and sell his own products at the shop .
The building was previously owned by E . M . Weikert Plumbing , since 1904 . It was the only business at that location for nearly 100 years . Carter used some of the supplies he found from the plumbing store in the new design of the boutique to pay homage to the original owners of the building .
The shop took him nearly two years to get up and running with financial and construction delays . Carter always wanted to own a boutique of his own and is excited to see the curiosity generated by his new business grow . He hopes that the shop can be more than just a boutique for the community .
“ I want to be a community outlet ,” said Carter . “ I have already had a couple of free events , like movie nights and a Madden tournament when I can .”
To attend some of the events held at the boutique you can visit his instagram page @ lowkeybougie . The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 to 7 p . m .
All the brands showcased in the shop are local brands from New York .
